Day of the Dead and All Souls’ Day origins

Did you know that the Church instituted All Souls’ Day in the XI century? In 2012, André Bernardo wrote an article for SuperInteressante magazine about the origins of many rituals we perform until today and All Souls’ Day and Day of the Dead origins were among those. Photo: Mario Rodriguez In the old days, the dead were worshipped in banquets with the purpose of asking for good harvests. In Catholicism, All Souls’ Day is celebrated in November, 2nd. Photo: Nick Fewings The Day of the Dead is one of the most popular parties, happening in Mexico, combining the Catholic celebration and an Indian rite.
